Gerard D. Frank, AIA


Gerry is a Founding Principal of Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects which was formed in 1992. As President of BFE, Gerry has served as Principal-In-Charge for numerous senior living communities and several centers dedicated to Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Care needs including Adelaide of Newton Centre, Jerome Home and Arbor Rose in Britain CT, and several Benchmark Senior Living Communities throughout New England.

Currently involved with research, Gerry lectures on the subject of environmental modifications and nursing home design with a strong focus on the care for individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. Gerry has lectured at Brown University, Harvard Medical School, and Boston University School of Public Health. His research began in the late 1980’s when he was part of a multi-disciplinary team of staff and researchers from both Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital both in Boston, MA as part of a Grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Gerry has also lectured at the MIT Center for Real Estate’s Professional Development Institute on the subject of Assisted Living Today, focusing on the care and housing of residents with dementia.

Gerry has amassed and strong portfolio for educational and religious buidings. He has a long list of award-winning and favorite projects including: The Carroll School, Perkins School for the Blind, Belmont Day School, Temple Beth Avodah, House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Beth Israel Synagogue & Mikvah, and Mayyim Hayyim Mikvah.

Gerry received a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former Board Member of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association and former elected Town Meeting Member for the Town of Brookline MA. Gerry is registered in the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and New York. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, Boston Society of Architects, as well as The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Outside of work, Gerry is an avid supporter of the arts. He was Board President for the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, now joined with the Trustees of Reservation. Currently, Gerry is an active Advisory Board Member for “Gateway Arts” providing individualized arts-based services to adults with disabilities. In addition, Gerry is an avid skier, hiker, and movie devotee.
