Private Residence
Lexington, MA
Located in a historic neighborhood in the Lexington, MA, the goal of this addition and renovation to a 1900’s gambrel style residence was to modernize the house to meet the needs of a 21st century family and preserve the existing structure for future generations. The existing living areas were undersized and dark and there was a desire to provide more connection to the exterior spaces, especially the peaceful and private backyard, and bring in more natural light. The homeowner also wished to be able to age in place in the residence, which was accomplished through the addition of a first-floor guest suite and elevator, with a new primary suite located on the second floor.
Due to the significant slope of the lot, care was taken to keep the roof lines low so as to not overwhelm the house located downslope and to better match the existing structure. Dormers were added on both the addition and existing structure to better utilize the space under the sloping ceilings. Custom millwork was incorporated into eave spaces to provide increased storage.
The projected was completed in 2022. The Contractor is Stanley Wood Corp. The Interior Designer is Robbin Gannon Interiors.
