This 1911 English cottage possessed many of the old world charms coveted by our clients.  Unfortunately it also suffered from many of the shortcomings resultant in a design from that era. The spaces, while very well appointed, were designed for a much more private and formal lifestyle. Our collective goal for the project was to open the flow to an informal and contemporary layout while maintaining its distinctive Arts and Crafts character. The project consisted of a complete renovation of all major interior spaces.  A new "family wing" comprised of dining, kitchen, and den now flows comfortably where previously a servant stair and pantry once separated the kitchen from all other rooms of the house. On the second floor, four smaller rooms were combined to create a new master suite. A new grand stair to the third floor replaced the cramped winding servant's stair that was its only previous access. This new stair core links the house vertically allowing light and air from brand new skylights to flow easily from top to bottom. The entire design and construction process took approximately one year to complete.
