This 1930's colonial revival house is located in the water-tower heights section of Arlington, MA.  Characteristics of the colonial revival period the existing rooms are undersized for contemporary needs; circulation is linear with isolate rooms that do not flow together.  The home has very limited accessor views to the outdoor space. The project consisted of a kitchen / great room added to the first floor on the rear of the house, with a new master suite above.  The kitchen / great rom is open to the rear yard both visually and physically connecting the home to the patio and yard.  in keeping with ideas promoted in the "Not So Big House" book series, The existing first floor plan was reordered to develop a more open, circular flow and to repurpose the living room to become an actively used space. A new mudroom and powder room were also included to serve the needs f the modern family.  The result is a more open plan with a slightly modern feel While maintaining the house's character and detail. The interior systems were updated including a new hydro- air-heating and cooling system As well as radiant flooring In the new master bedroom
