The office renovation for Dr. Sam Levine was a study in simplification. The building where the office is now located had undergone many transformations over the years. It had been converted from a home into office space and had subsequently been added to year after year, with little regard for the overall space. For the new office space, the slate was wiped clean, clearing out as much of  partitioning as possible and whittling down the doctor's program to three main functions: arrival, reception, and treatment. The main functional spaces were arranged in sequence and delineated by narrower boundary zones to emphasize the new larger rooms. These pass-throughs became more than just walls: Their surfaces were designed as occupiable bookcases containing ancillary functions such as waiting benches, computer sign in, and post treatment brush up areas. Walking through the office, a patient can see all the way through to the treatment area but must pass through the boundary zones to discover the true sense of the total space.
