House
of Prayer
Hingham, Massachusetts
In historic Hingham, Massachusetts, the renovation of a 1960s church unified two separate buildings with a glass curtain wall and tower marking the entry from the parking area. The congregation expressed a need for expanding the sanctuary and narthex spaces, augmenting the social hall, and providing classrooms and a nursery for Sunday school. Developing a master plan for the church’s new campus, BFE located the nave, narthex, and sacristy in a new structure, while renovating the existing church to house the Fellowship Hall, the church offices, and classrooms. This new massing provided an opportunity for creating a church with a stronger visual presence.
